All men’s category riders who have won at least one of the following ten events (great victories) are included: the three grand tours (general classification), the five monuments, the road world championships (road race) and the Olympic Games (road race).

The position of each rider is ranked from highest to lowest in the total number of great victories. In case of a tie in the aforementioned total number of great victories, riders are ranked according to their date of birth -from more to less recent.

The ranking table shows the great victories detail of each rider. The following matters of interest about the preparation of the table are to be taken into consideration:

  • The following editions of the Olympic Games are not included, as they were exclusively disputed in track mode: 1900, 1904 and 1908.

  • The following editions of the Olympic Games are not included because they were exclusively disputed in time trial mode: 1912, 1920, 1924, 1928 and 1932.

  • The following edition of the Olympic Games is not included because it was not officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee: 1906.

  • Even though they were contested in a modality limited to amateur cyclists, 14 editions of the Olympic Games are included, corresponding to the following winners: A. Konstantinidis, R. Charpentier, J. Beyaert, A. Noyelle, E. Baldini, V. Kapitonov, M. Zanin, P. Vianelli, H. Kuiper, B. Johansson, S. Sujoruchenkov, A. Grewal, O. Ludwig and F. Casartelli.

  • The 3 editions of Liège - Bastogne - Liège won by L. Houa -who competed as an amateur at the time of his dispute- are included.

  • The 9 editions of Liège - Bastogne - Liège won by A. Trousselier, V. Fastre, J. Van Daele, M. Moritz, G. Ronsse, D. Smets, M. Raes, E. Mottard and A. Schepers -who competed as amateurs at the time of their dispute- are included.

  • The 1912 edition of the Giro d'Italia is not included because it was disputed exclusively in team mode, without individual general classification.

  • The following editions of the Tour de France are not included because they were declared deserted: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

  • The Liège - Bastogne - Liège edition won ex aequo by G. Derycke and F. Schoubben is included. It's a rider-up victory.

  • The Paris - Roubaix edition won ex aequo by S. Coppi and A. Mahe is included. It's a rider-up victory.

  • L. Duerloo is included as the winner of the 1935 edition of Ronde van Vlaanderen, as officially recorded in the race website. However, other sources claim M. Kint to be the winner.

  • No information was found on the date of birth of M. Moritz and A. Konstantinidis. For such reason and due to the fact that they own a single great victory in total, they are placed in the last two positions of the table. M. Moritz is ranked above A. Konstantinidis because his great victory is more recent.

  • Different dates of birth have been found for G. Cuniolo, A. Gremo, A. Varetto, A. Leoni, P. Cerami, D. Ronchini, V. Taccone and S. Sujoruchenkov during the research process. All dates have been checked and the one that has appeared the most among the sources consulted and /or which is most consistent with the career of the rider has been included.

  • As aforementioned and according to the research process, the editions of the events disputed in a modality open exclusively to amateur categories or won by non-professional riders at the time of their dispute are included. However, Great Cycling Victories reminds that information about amateur editions of the races may not be exhaustive and it is also possible to have other editions on the table won by either independent riders (those who were not a part of any sport team at the time of their achievement).
